BIC Lazio, founded in 1990 by the Lazio Region (Rome), is the regional network agency responsible for encouraging local development through the promotion of an entrepreneurial culture and through supporting the creation and development of business initiatives. Creative Industries (CI) is an important sector in the Lazio Region. The “cultural cluster” incorporates 1800 private business including important and highly innovative firms in the ICT sector. In the Lazio Region, a significant increase (+135,1%) has been noted in activities linked with cultural and creative industries, especially in the audiovisual sector. In the regional network there are 5 public and 4 private universities supporting studies in this field and other institutes include the central Institution of the Cultural Heritage and cultural activities Minister (ICR; ICPL; ICCD; ICCU) as well as important institutes like CNR, ENEA and INFN. The Lazio Region has started the constitution of a Technological District of Cultural heritage and activities, with the aim of increasing links and cooperation between academic and business sectors.
Bic Lazio has supported many creative enterprises through the different steps of enterprise creation, but in the last three years creative enterprises have been targeted as a specific sector with specific requirements. Specific actions to support Creative Industry growth include:
- Collaboration with the University of Viterbo to organize a course on Cultural Entrepreneurship;
- Giving support to young artists organizing a master of art management improving their own economical sustainability (Imprendilarte Proiect);
Planning and implementing the development of a dedicated Cultural Enterprises Incubator in Viterbo, in partnership with the Carivit Foundation in order to promote Culture and Creative Industries.
