Arc 3D Webservice – 3D mesh models from multi-view images - Training Resources

Technology profile:

Arc 3D is a free webservice-based database allowing users to upload digital images of a scene to a server where a 3D reconstruction of the scene is performed. ARC has developed software to compute the reconstruction over a distributed network of PCs. This makes the procedure much faster and also more robust. Depending on the size, number and quality of the images that have been uploaded, a typical job may take from 15 minutes to 2 or 3 hours. The output of the reconstruction, relative camera positions and a depth map associated to each input image, can then be imported into Meshlab for reconstructing a 3D mesh of the scene.

Benefits and specific value of implementation:

The ARC 3D webservice enables a 3D reconstruction of objects from a set of regular 2D photographs. This can be useful for any end user that needs a 3D model of an object, be it small or as large as a building or a view. The authors will gladly discuss integrating their service in an existing product.

Opportunities and sectors for deployment:
